25. July was named Jacob Våthatt (below left), James Fair, James-sok or James skoddefole (Latin Jacobi Apostoli). It was the anniversary of the Apostle James, Spain’s patron saint. Primstavmerket er ein hatt og eit muslingeskal (pilegrimane brukte ofte muslingskal som drikkebeger). I folkeleg tradisjon er muslingskalet omtolka til ein vassdrope, derav namnet Jakob våthatt. James våthatt is a popular name on the anniversary of the Apostle James the 25th July. The Apostle James was one of Jesus’ twelve disciples, the son of Zebedee and Salome and cousin of Jesus. He was Spain’s patron saint, and his grave in Santiago de Compostela where legend he was buried on 25 July year 44, is one of the most important pilgrimage destinations in the Christian tradition.
